Our Mission and Vision
JAMARDA Resources, Inc. was founded in 1997 and is privately owned and operated. Our mission is to promote competency related to diversity and cultural care in healthcare organizations. We strive to accomplish this through the provision of education and training for health care providers that is based on scholarly evidence, research, and diverse interpersonal experiences. Our vision is that health care providers, will be prepared to competently interact with and care for persons of diverse values, practices, lifeways, and traditions.
We are dedicated to facilitating the development of intellectual and practical skills among health care providers that promote a broadened mindfulness of self, enlightenment concerning the value of differences, and understanding of diversity and transcultural principles.
About The Author
Janice D. Andrews is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. She began her nursing career as a staff nurse in Washington, DC. There, while working in maternal-child nursing practice, she was challenged to provide nursing care to the culturally diverse people who make up the population of Washington, DC. While continuing her maternal-child focus throughout her nursing career, her interest in diversity and culture led to the authorship of four previous editions of the Cultural, Ethnic and Religious Reference Manual for Health Care Providers. She is also the author of Cultural, Ethnic and Religious Word Searches and Crossword Puzzles, and Cultural, Ethnic, and Religious Diversity Tests.
Ms. Andrews has worked primarily in nursing education and leadership roles in acute care settings while also providing direct patient care. There, she gained firsthand knowledge of the challenges of diversity to health care providers. While continuing her nursing roles, she served for 11 years in the role of organizational diversity facilitator, while providing education to employees in a wide range of health care disciplines.
She holds a graduate certificate in transcultural nursing from the University of Northern Colorado–Greeley, Colorado and a specialty certification in transcultural nursing. She has memberships in a number of professional organizations. Ms. Andrews is the founder and President of JAMARDA Resources, Inc. An integral focus of her professional activities involves educating health care providers regarding diversity issues, transcultural nursing, and the provision of culturally congruent care through lectures, seminars, and workshops throughout the United States.
